The Youth Symphony of Kansas City has announced the appointment of STEVEN C. MURRAY as executive director, and the election of PETER T. WITTE as board president. Before coming to the YSKC Murray spent three years with the Kansas City Symphony as education manager. He had earlier served as director of education and Symphony School director at the Cedar Rapids Symphony (now known as Orchestra Iowa). Murray was recently elected to the board of the League of American Orchestras’ Youth Orchestra Division. He holds bachelor’s degrees in music education and communication arts (electronic media) from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Witte, whose term as president commenced in June, is dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, and was previously chair of the Department of Music at Georgia’s Kennesaw State University and director of its instrumental studies program. Also a conductor, Witte has served on the YSKC Board of Directors since 2008.
