Ohio’s Akron Symphony has appointed GERARD GIBBS director of artistic planning. He served most recently as development manager for the London-based Monteverdi Trust, where he worked with conductor John Eliot Gardiner and his Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra. Prior to that he spent eight years in Canada as executive and artistic director of The Empress Theatre Society (Fort MacLeod, Alberta). In the early 1990s Gibbs was general manager of the Duluth Superior (Minn.) Symphony Orchestra. Also an oboist, he has performed with the DSSO as well as with New York’s Waverly Consort, the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, Seattle Baroque, Alberta’s Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver, British Columbia.
