The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of FRANCESCO LECCE-CHONG as assistant conductor. In this capacity he will conduct youth and outreach concerts, lead the MSO in its annual Wisconsin State Tour and in two Basilica Series concerts, and be on the podium November 9, 2011, for a special concert featuring Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Joyce Yang. Lecce-Chong was principal conductor of the Brooklyn Repertory Opera during the 2009-10 season, and has served as assistant conductor for productions of the Gotham Chamber Opera and Mannes Opera in New York City and for the Curtis Opera Theatre in Philadelphia. Also active as a solo pianist and chamber musician, he holds a bachelor’s degree in both piano and orchestral conducting from Mannes College The New School for Music, and an artist’s diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music.
