JORGE MESTER has been named artistic director of the Los Angeles-based Young Musicians Foundation and its pre-professional Debut Orchestra. In this capacity he will serve as conductor mentor for the organization, supervise auditions in September 2011, conduct a November 6 concert at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Bing Theatre, and lead the development of an expanded conductor training program. Mester is conductor laureate of the Aspen Music Festival and School and continues to hold music directorships at the Naples (Fla.) Philharmonic (where he begins his final season this fall) and at The Louisville Orchestra. In May 2010 he stepped down as music director of the Pasadena Symphony after a 25-year tenure.
