Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit will lead the Philadelphia Orchestra on its 2011 European Festival Tour, which begins on August 25 with a concert of Sibelius, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel at Austria’s Grafenegg Castle. The tour includes performances in Lucerne, Edinburgh, Dresden,  Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Essen, London, and Dublin, and ends on September 9 with a program of Glinka, Ravel, and Berlioz at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Among works to be featured on the tour are Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, with soloist Janine Jansen; Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, with soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet; Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique; Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale; Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances; and Wolfgang Rihm’s Verwandlung 3.
