The New West Symphony (Thousand Oaks, Cal.) has announced the appointment of DANIELLE BELEN as concertmaster. She began playing with the orchestra in the 2004-05 season and has served in several positions since that time, including assistant and associate concertmaster. A first-place laureate in the 2008 Sphinx Competition for Black and Latino string players, Belen has appeared as soloist with the Boston Pops, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Florida Orchestra, and the Atlanta, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco symphonies. Belen is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music and of the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, where she is currently a teaching assistant to violin pedagogue Robert Lipsett. She is also artistic director of Center Stage Strings, a summer camp and performance festival for gifted young musicians that she founded in Three Rivers, Cal.
