The application deadline for the 15th annual Sphinx Competition for young black and Latino string players is November 9, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. EST. For the first time, the competition is accepting only online applications through a partnership with ReviewRoom, an online application and submission management program. Applications mailed directly to the Sphinx Organization will not be accepted, and only online applicants will be considered during the preliminary round.

The Sphinx Competition, open to middle-school, high-school, and college-age black and Latin string players from the U.S., is held each year in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan. This year’s competition will begin on February 8, 2012, and end with the finals concert at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall on February 12 at 2 p.m. Competition winners receive cash awards as well as full-tuition scholarships to top music schools and summer programs.
