The North Carolina Symphony has launched an online classroom for music educators as a way for the state’s teachers and administrators to view presentations from the orchestra’s annual Education Concert Workshop, held this year at Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall on August 16. The online classroom, supported by Moodle.org, is aimed at music teachers in far-lying rural areas unable to travel to attend the classes necessary to meet their professional requirements. At the site teachers can read presentation materials, download teacher and student workbooks, and interact with other North Carolina educators at an online forum. Access to the online classroom is $30, which includes a hard copy of student and teacher books, as well as a CD of music being performed by the North Carolina Symphony at its education concerts throughout the state. The North Carolina Symphony travels extensively throughout North Carolina to perform 175 annual concerts for adults and schoolchildren in cities including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Fayetteville, New Bern, Southern Pines, and Wilmington.
