The New York Philharmonic’s opening-night gala at Avery Fisher Hall will air live on PBS’s “Live from Lincoln Center” on September 21 at 7:30 p.m. (ET). Led by Music Director Alan Gilbert and featuring soprano Deborah Voigt, the concert will include Barber’s The School for Scandal Overture and Andromache’s Farewell for soprano and orchestra; the Overture and “Dich, teure Halle” from Wagner’s Tannhäuser; and the Intermezzo, Dance, and Final Scene from Strauss’s Salome. “Live from Lincoln Center,” in its 36th broadcast season, is the only series of live performing arts telecasts on American television. During the New York Philharmonic’s 170th season in 2011-12, the orchestra will, in addition to concerts at Avery Fisher Hall, also make tours to Europe and California, continue its CONTACT! new-music series, and perform as one of three orchestras in Stockhausen’s groundbreaking work Gruppen at the Park Avenue Armory.
