The Bard College Conservatory of Music in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. has received a $9.2 million gift from László Z. Bitó, a Bard alumnus and retired professor of ocular physiology at Columbia University, for the construction of a state-of-the-art teaching and performing facility. The László Z. Bitó ‘60 Conservatory Building, as it will be known, will be designed by Deborah Berke & Partners Architects in New York City; it will house a 145-seat hall that can be configured in a variety of ways and will also feature live-streaming capability. Also planned are fifteen teaching studios, a lounge, and a large classroom that can be used for audio and video recording. The Bard College Conservatory of Music offers a five-year program of study incorporating a bachelor of music and a bachelor of arts in another field of study; it also offers graduate programs in vocal study and conducting, and is home to a preparatory division. The Conservatory has an enrollment of just over 100 full-time students.
