Cellist Alisa Weilerstein (pictured) and choral conductor Francisco Núñez, founder and artistic director of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, are among the 22 MacArthur Fellows recently announced by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. MacArthur Fellows are chosen for demonstrating exceptional creativity and promise; each Fellow receives an unrestricted grant of $500,000 for creative work. Fellows for 2011 also include WNYC radio host Jad Abumrad, evolutionary geneticist Sarah Otto, jazz percussionist and composer Dafnis Prieto, and poet and translator A. E. Stallings. The inaugural class of MacArthur Fellows was announced in 1981.
