The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s first LA Phil LIVE broadcast of the 2011-12 season will take place on October 9, when its all-Mendelssohn concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall will be shown at participating movie theaters throughout the U.S. It is the second year of LA Phil LIVE broadcasts for the orchestra. Music director Gustavo Dudamel will lead the orchestra on Sunday in Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, Symphony No. 3 (“Scottish”), and the Violin Concerto, with soloist Janine Jansen. The broadcast, at 2 p.m. Pacific time (5 p.m. ET), will include behind-the-scenes interviews and rehearsal footage of the musicians. The LA Phil plans three movie-theater simulcasts for the 2011-12 season; Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 will be broadcast live from Venezuela on February 18, 2012, with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra joining the LA Phil; details about a spring LA Phil Live concert will be announced at a later date.
