A report in Tuesday’s (10/11) Buffalo Business First (New York) states, “The immediate past director of marketing and communications at the Cleveland Institute of Music has been recruited by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for a similar position. Susan Schwartz has been named the BPO’s new director of marketing and communications, replacing Richard Doran, who left the orchestra earlier this year to return to Philadelphia. ‘Susan has the right combination of skills, experience and passion for music that will help the BPO achieve its ongoing goal to increase awareness for the orchestra and expand our base of patrons,’ said Daniel Hart, BPO executive director. … At the Cleveland Institute of Music, Schwartz led efforts to promote the institute internationally and to build audience and raise funds for a major capital campaign. She also helped craft a 75th anniversary celebration for the CIM and coordinated the ground-breaking and opening events for a campus expansion. Schwartz also directed national advertising campaigns to recruit students and was responsible for brand and image management at all levels of the organization. Schwartz has additional marketing experience with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the West Shore Symphony in Michigan.”
