The San Francisco Symphony will kick off its American Orchestra Forum on Sunday, October 23 with “Talking About Community,” the first of three open conversations at Davies Symphony Hall this season about the 21st-century orchestra. Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and Executive Director Deborah Borda will host the free talk about how orchestras have adapted to serve changing communities; the event takes place during the same week as the LA Phil’s two-concert residency at Davies Symphony Hall, hosted by the San Francisco Symphony. The keynote discussion with Dudamel and Borda will be followed by two spotlight discussions, featuring League of American Orchestras President and CEO Jesse Rosen, University of Michigan Professor of Music Mark Clague, San Francisco arts journalist Steven Winn, and Sphinx Organization Vice President and Artistic Director Afa Sadykhly Dworkin, among others; and a roundtable discussion. The second and third American Orchestra Forum events, “Talking About Creativity” and “Talking About Audiences,” are set for March 17 and May 13, 2012, at Davies Symphony Hall.
