The 2011 Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship has been awarded to Brazilian conductor ALEXANDRA ARRIECHE. Currently pursuing a master’s degree in orchestral conducting at Bard College, Arrieche earned her undergraduate degree in conducting and composition at the University of São Paulo State, and was subsequently named assistant conductor of the University of São Paulo Orchestra. She has guest conducted such orchestras as the Brazilian Youth Symphony, North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, Minas Gerais Philharmonic, Londrina Symphony Orchestra, and Woodstock (N.Y.) Chamber Orchestra. The Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship, which has also announced an Honorable Mention to conductor TONG CHEN, was established in 2002 by conductor Marin Alsop with the mission “to promote, present, and encourage talented women conductors at the beginning of their professional careers.” As the 2011 fellowship recipient, Arrieche will work with Alsop and other mentors through the 2012-13 season and receive an honorarium.
