Tune Up Philly, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s afterschool music-education program for disadvantaged students, has received a donation of 24 clarinet reeds, valued at more than $800, from the Canadian manufacturer Légère Reeds Ltd. The Signature Model reeds will be used by students in the five-day-a-week program, now in its second year of operation, at a new location: the People for People Charter School in North Philadelphia. Tune Up Philly provides instruction in woodwind, brass, strings, choral, and general music education, with instruction by nine local professional musicians. This year’s instructors are tenor Steven Bradshaw, French hornist Elysa DiMauro; violinists Jassamine Harris and Mandy Wolman; clarinetist Agnes Marchione; trombonist Jason Stein; flutist Frances Tate; cellist Andrea Weber; and trumpeter Daniel Wright.
