What’s it like for a conductor with an international resume and deep roots in Vienna to take up the baton of an American orchestra? Apparently it’s a blast. Arild Remmereit, who this season began his tenure as music director of New York’s Rochester Philharmonic, talks to SymphonyNOW about his initial attraction to the orchestra’s “free music-making,” his mission to expand the repertoire, and yes, purple plaid.

Now more than ever, orchestras are being asked to demonstrate their community worth. This week, League President and CEO Jesse Rosen talks about how better to communicate public value. And we spotlight Symphony of Northwest Arkansas’s recent YouTube hit—a video of their “Arkansas Fight!” encore this past March.

SymphonyNOW is the League’s new, online-only publication that provides timely stories about orchestras on a weekly basis. You’ll find SymphonyNOW just to the right-hand side here on the Hub homepage.
