DAVID MILLS has retired as principal tubist in the Charlotte (N.C.) Symphony following a 35-year tenure. A native of Albemarle, N.C., Mills received his training at the University of Miami, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Manhattan Conservatory, and the Institute of Advanced Musical Studies in Montreux, Switzerland. At the Charlotte Symphony he performed a variety of artistic roles, including soloist, narrator, and youth orchestra coach. He also served part-time as assistant librarian from 1980 to 1992, and as principal librarian from 1993 to the present. In early November he began full-time duties as the orchestra’s librarian.
