The Orchestra Residencies Program founded by the violinist Midori has announced that March 1, 2012 is the deadline for applications for the 2013-14 season. Two residencies are awarded each season for the program, a collaborative project meant to help establish youth orchestras as a presence in their communities by building relationships with the local professional orchestra, visiting artists, and administrative staff. The first annual Orchestra Residencies program took place in Alaska in October 2004; the 2011-12 residencies take place in Alexandria, Virginia and Eugene, Oregon. Any U.S. youth orchestra and its affiliated adult orchestra with combined budgets not more than $4.5 million may submit an application for an Orchestra Residency with Midori.
