In Wednesday’s (11/16) Boston Business Journal, Mary Moore reports, “Boston Lyric Opera has completed a record fundraising year, exceeding its goals and raising more than $5 million in one year, according to a news release from the Opera. The $5 million figure includes $1.5 million in funds raised in the first year of a four-year, $4 million fundraising campaign, concluded in June, aimed at special initiatives, including Opera Annex, new productions, and new works. The four-year campaign—called Envision Opera Challenge—started in November 2010 with a four-year, $1 million matching gift from an anonymous family foundation. The campaign funds projects that are part of the expanded artistic vision of the Opera. The goal for the first year of the campaign was $750,000 so the Opera would qualify to receive $250,000 in matching funds. The Opera met the requirements for the match plus an additional $250,000 from the Calderwood Charitable Foundation. Then the 60-member Boards of Directors and Overseers contributed another $247,000. Fundraising began again in July to meet the second year of the campaign.”
