The New Haven (Conn.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of ELAINE C. CARROLL as executive director. She had been serving in that capacity on an interim basis since June 1, 2011, and she spearheaded the NHSO’s successful Bold New Vision Campaign, which garnered over $500,000 in pledges for audience development and education initiatives. Carroll has eighteen years of development experience in the nonprofit sector. From 2003 to 2010 she was general manager of the Stamford (Conn.) Symphony. Previous arts experience includes serving as executive director of the Westchester Philharmonic (White Plains, N.Y.) and as festival and business manager of the Norfolk (Conn.) Chamber Music Festival/Yale Summer School of Music. Carroll holds a master’s degree in performing arts administration from New York University and a bachelor’s in flute performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She continues to be active as a flutist and vocalist.
