In an opinion piece in Wednesday’s (12/7) Denver Post, Jeffrey Kahane, former music director of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, writes, “Having had a working relationship with the Colorado Symphony that spans nearly a quarter of a century, and having had the privilege of serving as its music director for five of these years, I have watched the latest developments in the history of this extraordinary orchestra with deep concern. … The articles that have been published suggest that the musicians have not done enough to help out the CSO in its time of trial, and that the mass resignation of board members was justified by the intransigence of the musicians in the face of the dire circumstances that the CSO, like so many of its fellow orchestras around the country, is currently facing. This is utter nonsense. … I know of no group of musicians anywhere in the world more dedicated, more flexible, more creative, and more generous in spirit than the members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. … The bottom line is this: There is no reason why the city of Denver cannot support a world-class full-time symphony orchestra, provided the will and the creative vision to do so are there and are supported by those who have the resources.”
