ELIZABETH MAHLER has been named managing director of The Knights, a New York City-based chamber orchestra that performs in alternative venues and in flexible configurations. She served most recently as director of special projects for New York’s Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Before joining the Orpheus staff in July 2009 Mahler spent a year of in-field training in the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship Program. She had earlier spent three years at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, first serving as a violin fellow and subsequently pursuing opportunities in marketing and development. A native of Buffalo, New York, Mahler holds a master’s degree in violin performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in American history and literature from Harvard University.
