The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association has announced the appointment of ROSINA CANNIZZARO as executive director, effective in early January 2012. She has extensive experience as an arts educator in the New York City area, most recently as associate manager of The Academy, a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with New York City schools. Cannizzaro served previously as director of education for New York’s Little Orchestra Society. She has taught percussion, music theory, piano, and early childhood programs in many New York-area schools including the Diller-Quaile School of Music, the Sacred Heart School, the Yonkers Music Academy, and the Amadeus Conservatory of Music. Cannizzaro has also performed with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and has been a member of their school program “Drumschtick.” She holds a percussion performance degree from Indiana University, and expects to complete a master’s degree in management and nonprofit leadership from New England College (Henniker, N.H.) in spring 2012.
