Andrew Norman, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project’s new Music Alive composer-in-Residence, is settling in to his two-year residency that runs from 2011 to 2013. During his residency at BMOP, the 32-year-old New York City-based composer will write a large commissioned symphonic work to be performed by BMOP in 2013, and the orchestra will record some of Norman’s works on its BMOP/sound label. As part of the residency, Norman also will participate in BMOP’s educational outreach programs, Club Concerts series, and composer collective The Score Board. Music Alive’s composer residencies are a program of Meet the Composer and the League of American Orchestras. In 2011, Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras jointly granted $325,000 to the five composers and five orchestras participating in the 2011-13 Music Alive program; the other four are the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (Gabriela Lena Frank, two seasons), Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (Steven Stucky, one season), Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Mason Bates, one season), and the Stockton Symphony Association (Avner Dorman, one season).
