FAWZI HAIMOR has been named assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, effective with the 2012-13 season. He is now in his second season as assistant conductor of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, where he also serves as music director and principal conductor of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra. Active as a guest conductor, Haimor has recently performed with the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, the Amman Symphony, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra; upcoming engagements include the Georgia Music Educators Association’s All-College Orchestra Festival in Savannah, and an All-State Festival in Tuscaloosa presented by the Alabama Orchestra Association. Raised in the Middle East and in California, Haimor is a graduate of the University of California-Davis, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music and neurobiology, physiology and behavior as well as a master’s in conducting. He completed a second master’s degree, in instrumental conducting, at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
