Charleston Symphony launches contest for high-school musicians

South Carolina’s Charleston Symphony Orchestra has announced its inaugural Share the Stage Contest for violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists in grades 9 through 12. Students wishing to audition for the contest must upload video tryouts; twenty string players will be selected to perform on January 12 in the orchestra’s performance of Borodin’s Prince Igor Overture at Gaillard Municipal Auditorium, conducted by JoAnn Falletta. The deadline for video auditions is December 23 at 5 p.m. Students may apply online, where there are more detailed instructions for auditioning; for more information, call the CSO at 843-723-7528. Contest winners will be announced in January.
