A report in Thursday’s (1/12) Springfield News-Leader (Missouri) states, “Six finalists for music director and conductor of the Springfield Symphony will have the chance to compete for the affection of audiences during the symphony’s upcoming season, the organization announced Wednesday. Former director Ron Spigelman, who was with the symphony for seven years, announced in September that he would not renew his contract for the 2012-2013 season. According to the symphony, each finalist will conduct one of the six classical concerts during its 78th season. Following each concert, audience members, orchestra members, symphony staff and the Board of Directors will evaluate the conducting finalist. Each group’s judgment will be given equal weight in the hiring decision. The first finalist, Andres Franco, will conduct on Sept. 22. Franco is the associate conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.” The other candidates (in order of appearance) are Darko Butorac, Marc Taddei, Markand Thackar, Kyle Pickett and Diane Wittry.
