Edna Landau, whose “Ask Edna” career-advice column for musicians and arts administrators appears weekly at the Musical America website, will celebrate its first anniversary by holding a contest. To enter the contest, submit a question by January 31 to askedna@musicalamerica.com. Prizes for winning questions will include a free resume review, presskit review, and consultation with Landau. Among the topics covered recently in Landau’s advice column: the art of turning down work, how to get a meeting with a presenter, and whether or not to play for free. Landau was a director of IMG Artists from its founding in 1984 until 2007; since 2008 she has served as director of career development at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Landau’s archived advice columns can be found at the Musical America website.
