Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony and Miami’s New World Symphony, will be among the presenters at the TED2012 conference in Long Beach, California, from February 27 to March 2. Tilson Thomas will appear on a February 28 panel with the ensemble Quixotic, filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Wall-E), kinetic sculptor Reuben Margolin, and poet Billy Collins. Also scheduled to make presentations at TED2012 are choreographer Twyla Tharp, organist Cameron Carpenter, banjoist Abigail Washburn, and energy theorist T. Boone Pickens. TED is a nonprofit founded in 1984 as a conference meant to bring together ideas from the technology, entertainment, and design fields. The TED2012 conference in Long Beach is one of two conferences run every year by the TED organization; the other, TEDGlobal, takes place in Edinburgh (Scotland) in the summer.
