The Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program in New Mexico has purchased a building, marking the first time in the organization’s 57-year history that it will have a permanent home rather than a borrowed space for rehearsals and administration. The building, located at 4407 Menaul Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, was purchased using funds raised from the youth orchestra’s capital campaign, with the result that no debt accrued to purchase the building. The 16,000-square-foot space includes two full-orchestra rehearsal spaces, and seven sectional rehearsal rooms, plus practice rooms, administrative offices, secure musical instrument storage, a percussion room, a music library, and a room for board, parent, alumni, and community meetings. The orchestra also plans to loan out its rehearsal space to other groups in Albuquerque. The AYSP was founded in 1955 and serves approximately 500 young musicians annually between ages 8 and 18.
