The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in Colorado will celebrate its 25th season this summer, under the direction of pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, in her second season as artistic director. As in previous summers, three symphony orchestras will be in residence: the New York Philharmonic, under Music Director Alan Gilbert; the Philadelphia Orchestra, under incoming Music Director Yannick Nézet-Seguin; and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, under Music Director Jaap van Zweden. Among the featured composers at Vail this summer are George Gershwin, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. Other festival highlights are a free season-opening chamber program on June 25 with McDermott, joined by two previous artistic directors: flutist Eugenia Zukerman and violinist and co-founder Ida Kavafian; a 25th-anniversary gala on July 21; and seven “Big Music for Little Bands” chamber programs with repertoire ranging from Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Scarlatti to Scriabin and Steven Mackey.
