The Wilmington-based Delaware Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of LEE A. WILLIAMSON as executive director, effective March 12. She was most recently director of corporate and foundation relations at Rutgers University Foundation. Williamson had earlier worked in development at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as director of individual giving. She has been an active member of the New Jersey business community, including the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, and has served on several nonprofit boards. Initially a professional musician, Williamson earned an undergraduate degree in music performance at Boston University and a master’s from Louisiana State University. For two summers she participated in the Empire Brass Symposium of Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and spent a third summer as assistant orchestra manager of Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists Orchestra. She joined the United States Air Force Band as euphonium soloist and continued to perform with that organization for more than six years. In addition to her performance schedule she held administrative duties that included operations for the touring ensemble and public affairs liaison with community sponsors.
