In Wednesday’s (2/22) York Dispatch (Pennsylvania), Chelsea Shank writes, “The York Symphony Orchestra will honor its longtime music director, begin a search for his replacement and present two pop concerts with an award-winning composer during its 80th anniversary season this year. The 2012-13 season will be dedicated to Robert Hart Baker, the orchestra’s music director for 30 years. He will transition to the role of music director laureate this fall for the 2012-13 season. ‘The whole season is a celebration of the orchestra and especially honoring Dr. Baker’s tenure,’ Ken Wesler, executive director for the York Symphony Orchestra, said Tuesday. The pop concerts will be led by Marvin Hamlisch, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his score for ‘A Chorus Line’ on Broadway and wrote the score for a number of films. … Baker, meanwhile, will lead four classical performances in the upcoming season. The dates for these shows have not yet been announced. After the 2012-2013 season, the orchestra will begin a search for a new music director, said John Bush, president of the orchestra. They are developing a strategic plan before launching the official national search, and plan to include the York community in the decision.”
