In Wednesday’s (2/22) Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Zachary Lewis writes, “The Cleveland Orchestra is two steps closer to full strength following the appointment of new members in the bass and oboe sections. Derek Zadinsky, a substitute in the bass section for most of the current season, begins this week as a full-fledged member. He succeeds Martin Flowerman, who retired last season. A native of Washington state, Zadinsky comes to Cleveland from a seat in New Jersey’s Symphony in C and performances with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and New World Symphony. He holds a degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Edgar Meyer and Harold Robinson. Mary Lynch joins the orchestra in August, filling the second-chair position formerly held by Elizabeth Camus, who retired last season. Lynch is currently completing her master’s degree at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where she studies with Elaine Douvas and Nathan Hughes. She also holds a degree from the New England Conservatory. Her performance experience includes positions with the New York String Orchestra and Discovery Ensemble, appearances at the Marlboro and Aspen Music Festivals, and frequent work with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.”
