The Boston Symphony Orchestra has announced the addition of four musicians to its roster, effective with the 2012-13 season. JONATHAN CHU and WESLEY COLLINS will join the viola section; new to the percussion section will be KYLE BRIGHTWELL and MATTHEW McKAY. Chu has served as a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s viola section. Also a violinist, he has played section violin in the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Fe Opera, and was concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra. He holds a master’s degree from The Juilliard School and a bachelor’s from Vanderbilt University. Collins goes to Boston from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where he has been section violist since May 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has performed with the Canton (Ohio) Symphony, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, CityMusic Cleveland, and as a substitute with the Cleveland Orchestra. Percussionist Kyle Brightwell has performed with numerous orchestras including the Boston Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, New World Symphony, U.S. Navy Band, and U.S. Army Band. He holds a bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School and is completing a master’s degree at Boston University. Matthew McKay was most recently a member of the Oregon Symphony’s percussion section, and has performed as soloist with the BSO, the Boston Pops, the Boston Philharmonic, and the San Diego and Jacksonville symphony orchestras. He holds a bachelor’s degree from New England Conservatory and a master’s from Boston University.
