A report Sunday (3/4) on the WTNH News Channel 8 (New Haven, Connecticut) website states, “The Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras are celebrating their 50th anniversary with two weekend events. Later today, Sunday, March 4th, GBYO’s Winter Concert will be held at the Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport. The concert begins at 3 p.m., and is followed immediately by the reception. Christopher Hisey, Music Director for the organization, will conduct the Principal Orchestra in the final movement of Antonin Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World, Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz and Caprice (a curious preoccupation with three short themes), a composition by Gary Gibson, written for steel pan ensemble and orchestra. … The concert will open with the National Anthem, performed by GBYO’s Concert Orchestra, led by Jeff Albright. Pieces to be performed by the Alumni Orchestra include Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets, featuring trumpeters Zebediah Upton (Monroe GBYO member 1991-99) and Ed Reid (Stratford GBYO member 1973-75), Finlandia (Sibelius), Night on Bald Mountain (Mussorgsky), ‘Great Gate at Kiev’ from Pictures at an Exhibition (Bruno Reibold orchestration), all conducted by GBYO’s Music Director, GBYO alumnus and Fairfield native, Christopher Hisey. Music Director Emeritus Robert Genualdi will take the baton to lead the Alumni Orchestra in Bach’s Choral Prelude ‘Wachet aud, Ruft uns Die Stimme’ transcribed for orchestra by Eugene Ormandy.”
