Artistic: Calgary Philharmonic

MÉLANIE LÉONARD, resident conductor of the Calgary (Alberta) Philharmonic Orchestra since September 2009, has been promoted to associate conductor, effective in September 2012. A Montreal native, she has served as artistic director of the University of Montreal’s Veaudreuil-Soulanges Classical Choir and “École des jeunes” Youth String Orchestra, and is founder and artistic director of Ensemble Prima, a Montreal-based chamber ensemble devoted to 20th- and 21st-century music. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theory and a doctorate in conducting from the University of Montreal, and a master’s in orchestral conducting from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.
