The Nashville Symphony has announced the winners of its 2012 Curb Records Young Musicians Concerto Competition for musicians between ages 14 and 18, held on March 10 and 11 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Pianist Yusuke Yamanaka was awarded first prize of $3,000 in scholarship money, as well as the opportunity to perform in the orchestra’s May 24 side-by-side concert. First runner up was violinist Nathan Lowry, who won a $1,500 scholarship, and finalist Alex Wilborn, a trumpeter, received a $500 award. The Curb Concerto Competition takes place annually in March at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center; judges for this year’s final round were Jonah Rabinowitz, CEO of W.O. Smith/Nashville Community Music School; Kelly Corcoran, an associate conductor of the Nashville Symphony; and Andy Campbell, the Nashville Symphony’s education and community engagement program manager.
