The Conductors Guild, the national nonprofit organization for conductors, has announced that its next two conductor-training workshops will be held this spring and summer in Baltimore, Maryland and Santa Cruz, California. The application deadline is April 27 to apply for the Guild’s June 13-15 conductor-training workshop at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. During that workshop, participants will work with Marin Alsop, music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Markand Thakar, music director of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota’s Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. The deadline is April 6 to apply for a conductor/composer training workshop at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary in Santa Cruz from July 30-August 3. At the Cabrillo workshop, designed to give early-career conductors the opportunity to work with early-career composers, seven conductors will work with three selected composers on subjects including modern score analysis, coaching, rehearsal guidelines, and interpretation and performance of contemporary works.
