In Friday’s (3/30) Register-Guard (Eugene, Oregon), Bob Keefer reports, “The Eugene Symphony has signed Danail Rachev to a new three-year contract as music director and conductor of the orchestra. Rachev, who has headed the orchestra for three seasons, will now serve through the 2016-17 season. ‘I’m extremely happy to work with such great musicians, and I look forward to our continued collaboration,’ Rachev said in a prepared statement. ‘We have built a partnership that provides an important foundation for us to achieve our mission. I thank the board for their confidence in me. My family and I love Eugene, and I look forward to many more years of music-making here.’ ‘Danail’s leadership has resulted in remarkable artistic growth for the symphony,’ said Mary Ann Hanson, president of the Eugene Symphony’s board of directors. ‘His commitment to this orchestra and our mission is unwavering and the board, staff, musicians and community enthusiastically endorse the extension of his contract.’ During his tenure here Rachev has also performed with such other orchestras as the United Kingdom’s Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony.”
