The Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina will opens its 2012-13 season with a program of Verdi’s Overture to La Forza del Destino, Holst’s The Planets, and Brahms’s Shicksalslied for chorus and orchestra with the CSO Chorus. That concert will be led by David Amado, one of several guest conductors for the orchestra as it begins its search for a new music director, following the death in 2010 of David Stahl, who had led the CSO for 25 years. Other conductors at the CSO in 2012-13 include Morihiko Nakahara, JoAnn Falletta, James Feddeck, David Lockington, James Stephenson, and Maximiano Valdes. The CSO will perform five masterworks and three pops programs at Charleston’s Sottile Theatre and five chamber programs at the Dock Street Theatre, while the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium, the orchestra’s home, is closed during major renovations. The CSO will continue and expand its chamber series, which was new in the 2011-12 season, with programs to include works by J.S. and C.P.E. Bach, Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Mozart, and Milhaud. In December the CSO will perform Handel’s Messiah in Charleston, Summerville, and Mount Pleasant; and the season concludes in April with Verdi’s Requiem, with the CSO Chorus and College of Charleston Chorus.
