In Thursday’s (4/5) Idaho State Journal, Michael H. O’Donnell writes, “Music director of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony Chung Park is resigning his position. Park is also assistant professor of upper strings at Idaho State University and music director and conductor of Project Copernicus, a large chamber ensemble dedicated to performing music by living composers that has received wide critical acclaim. Park has notified his students, the orchestra, board and sponsors, and today letters were mailed to all sponsors/donors and season ticket holders. He has been at Idaho State University since 2008. He will become the director of orchestras at the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., beginning July 1. ‘There’s been tears,’ Park said about his decision to leave. ‘The people here are really fantastic. They work hard and love music. That’s all a person can ask for.’ … He said a move back to the eastern U.S. puts him closer to his parents and other family members in Chicago and that helped shape his decision.”
