A report posted Tuesday (4/10) on the WPRI Channel 12 site (Rhode Island) states, “The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra is joining forces with thousands of students from around the state for an upcoming concert. ‘The Orchestra Sings’ is an educational show featuring an interactive concert experience in conjunction with Carnegie Hall. The program began as an educational partnership between the RI Philharmonic and Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program. It provides each student with their own curriculum book and first instrument (a recorder) to keep as their own. RI Philharmonic provides the tools and professional development to support Music Educators & Music Education in the elementary schools by providing this program. Music Teachers work with their children in the classroom with this curriculum for twelve units. Children celebrate their work in the classroom at this culmination concert by becoming a ‘member of the orchestra’. The students literally play the recorder and/or sing with the live orchestra for 75 percent of the concert from their seats in the audience. Approximately 75 students will be seated on stage, behind the orchestra.”
