Wednesday (4/11) on the Denver Post blog Your Hub, Joe Nguyen writes, “The Aurora Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has chosen its five candidates for its soon-to-be-vacant music director position. Each candidate will have an opportunity to conduct a concert with the orchestra during its 2012-13 season. Jong-hun Bae will conduct the Fall Masterworks Oct. 19 to 21. Geoffrey Pope will conduct the Holiday Masterworks Dec. 14 to 16. Arturo Gonzalez will conduct the Children’s/Pops concert Feb. 9 to 10. Devin Hughes will conduct the Spring Masterworks March 22 to 24. And Norman Gamboa will conduct the Arts For a Better Tomorrow concert May 10 to 12. ‘All five of these gentlemen are enormously talented,’ said ASO President Rich Duston. ‘… Each of these candidates brought something different to the podium when they work.’ … The search, which is halfway through a two-year process, attracted conductors from around the world, he said. Richard Niezen, who has been the orchestra’s music director for the past decade, is stepping down at the end of this season. Officials say he has decided to explore other career opportunities.”
