The Solti Foundation has awarded its two major 2012 conducting prizes to Christian Macelaru and Robert Trevino. Macelaru, an assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra who previously served as assistant conductor of the Dallas Opera and conductor of the Houston Youth Symphony, receives the $10,000 Sir Georg Solti Emerging Conductor Award. Trevino, an associate conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra who was recently named “honorary maestro” of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, receives the $5,000 Solti Foundation U.S. Career Development Award. The awards are given biennially to an American conductor 35 years of age or younger (Emerging Conductor Award) and to an American conductor 32 years of age or younger (Career Development Award).
