The Ministry of Culture of Jalisco (Mexico) has announced the appointment of ALONDRA DE LA PARRA as artistic director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco in Guadalajara. A native of Mexico currently residing in Mexico City, de la Parra has guest conducted numerous orchestras in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Mexico. She made her debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco in 2005, and returned to Jalisco’s Teatro Degollado in 2010 with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, which she founded in 2003 while a student at New York’s Manhattan School of Music. De la Parra received a bachelor’s degree in piano at MSM in 2005 under the tutelage of Jeffrey Cohen, and a master’s in orchestral conducting in 2008 as a student of Kenneth Kiesler. The Mexican government has honored her with the title Cultural Ambassador of Tourism.
