In Sunday’s (4/22) Cincinnati Enquirer, Jackie Demaline and Janelle Gelfand report, “Miami University will hosts Wynton Marsalis as the keynote speaker for its ‘Year of the Arts’ on Tuesday at the university’s Gates-Abegglen Theatre in the Center for Performing Arts on the Oxford campus. The acclaimed trumpeter will deliver his speech, ‘The Ballad of American Arts.’ Immediately afterward, he will field questions from the audience. Recently named CBS News cultural correspondent, the New Orleans trumpeter is one of the foremost advocates for American arts and culture. ‘The Ballad of American Arts’ is his case statement for the centrality of the arts. ‘This very special event is a fitting bookend to Miami’s spectacular Year of the Arts celebration,’ said James Lentini, dean of Miami’s School of Fine Arts. ‘Wynton Marsalis is arguably the most prominent spokesperson for the arts in the country. His work, both on and off the stage, is an inspiration for all of us.’ ” The event, taking place today, April 24, at 4 p.m. EST, will be streamed live on Marsalis’s site.
