In Tuesday’s (5/1) Lubbock Avalanche-Journal (Texas), William Kerns writes, “The 2012 Texas Association for Symphony Orchestras (TASO) convention will be held in Lubbock Thursday through Sunday, with about 80 to 100 delegates also attending Saturday’s concert by the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. The Friday and Saturday LSO performances at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center mark the farewell appearances by conductor and music director Tomasz Golka. Golka will speak at the TASO luncheon on Friday. The Lubbock Symphony Guild last hosted the annual TASO conference in 1999. Delegates attending include presidents, presidents-elect and volunteer leaders from leagues or guilds representing orchestras in Amarillo, Austin, Big Spring, Bryan, College Station, Conroe, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Midland, Odessa, Plano, San Antonio, Tyler, Waco and Wichita Falls. The convention also includes a recital from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre, featuring student winners of the TASO’s annual Juanita Miller Concerto Competition. This concerto competition is held each year in Dallas; winners perform again at each annual conference.”
