ALEXANDER HANNA has been named to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s David and Mary Green Principal Bass chair, effective June 4, 2012. He is currently principal bass of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a post to which he was appointed in 2008 following graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music. A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Hanna has performed with the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras and with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has served as principal bass at numerous festival venues including Tanglewood Music Center—where he was a prize-winning TMC Fellow—and the Bellingham (Wash.) Music Festival, the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival (Southfield, Mich.). Hanna has also lectured and led master classes at Carnegie Mellon University, Texas Christian University, Oberlin College, Cleveland Institute of Music, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan.
